Question and Answers

Q:

runs rough and shakes. I replaced the air filter and the spark plug. Any other ideas?

A:

Hi,If you happened to have hit any hard object while mowing you may have partially sheared the flywheel key causing your symptom otherwise it is likely a carburetor issue. Be sure to have squeezed the filter in a towel to remove excess oil or it will run rich. If the air filter is not saturated with oil and the engine is running rich and rough then there is likely a carburetor issue. If your mower is less than 2 years old from the date of purchase I recommend returning it back to the Sears store, Parts and Repair Center or other Craftsman outlet for free repair. If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired by a Sears technician. Here is a link that will provide the nearest drop-off locations: Sears Home Services . I attached the link below. Hope this helps!

Be sure the gas in the mower is less than 5 weeks old or has fuel stabilizer in it.

Remove the blade and see if the mower runs smoother. Inspect the blade for damage.

If the fuel and blade are ok, I would replace the carburetor. If the blade is damaged the flywheel key might be bent.
