I understand how important it is for all of the functions on your lawnmower to be working properly since I know that the grass tends to grow very quickly and I will be happy to help you. Thanks. I appreciate your intentions, but this isn't a ride on mower, it a walk-behind power mower.

I have attached all the documents I have for the rear drive units. This should cover everything to do with what might be going on. I suspect the problem to be on the drive portion at the wheels, not with the axle/transmission.

I have attached 3 documents that will cover the drive completely. If nothing I have changes the problem, you will likely need to carry it in for service.

Thank you for using Manage My Life!

Very helpful answer. I found that a note on one of the documents about making sure that the drive disk was firmly in the friction seal solved my problem. Thanks.

Berkley2: Glad you got it fixed. Jess: Check to make sure nothing is hung up in the blade. Take out the spark plug and see if it will pull then. If you will submit a formal question to us, we can work with you to see about getting your machine back in working condition. Thank you.

I believe You may have solved a problem for me about the pinion drive on my mower. The mower was given to me because it would not self propel any longer. I've already replaced the transmission and drive pulley and a new belt, all things were working fine but still no catch on the wheels. I shall now replace both and see if that is the answer. I'm almost certain that it is. Thank you in advance.

I have a Craftsman 22 inch rear wheel drive lawnmower model number 917-374541, the easy walk handle for the rear wheel drive does not work. Ernie, I am sorry you are having a problem with the mower. First try to adjust the drive cable. The image below shows how to adjust the cable. If the cable will not tighten up when you pull the lever, I recommend taking the drive lever assembly apart. Once you have the screws removed do not let it fall apart, you want to slowly take it apart so none of the parts fall out. After you have it apart note the position of the parts and try to determine what is causing the problem. I posted a few image to help with the repair. I think they are close to yours. Once you determine which part is defective you can order a replacement from the following link. Craftsman mower model 917-374541 parts I hope this is helpful. Please let me know if you need further assistance. Thank you for using Manage my life. Mark.

My Model 917.374821 rear wheel drive lawn mower pulls to the right when running. It appears that the right rear wheel is not locking on the drive shaft. I have replaced the retainer drive, pawl, torsion spring, and drive disc with no success. Any suggestions?

Broken mover Drive Control Lever Part # 190038 917-374541

A:

Thanks for the inquiry and for being a valued member.

On the adjustable drive controls, there will be an adjustment nut right where the cable comes out of the housing. This one doesn't appear to have that adjustment nut, so it doesn't appear to be adjustable.

I do see that both the drive control assembly (583501101) and the lever (583190501) have been updated from the original parts, so they may be a better design than the originals.

I hope this helps and thanks for using SearsPartsDirect.com. We appreciate your business.
