Q:

how do i replace the drive belt on my lawnmower 917.374540

A:

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

I added a link to the Owner's Manual and on page 16 in the manual it will have the instructions for removing and replacing the drive belt.

I hope this is helpful. If I may be of further assistance as more details become available, please reply to this post.

I have a 917.374540 mower. I've referred to page 16 in the owners manual. I've taken of the 4 bolts holding the rear baffle on. However, It will not come out due to the drive shaft is in the way. The Debris Shield will not come off either. I've removed the one bolt in the diagram, but something is keeping it from off. It seems like something on both sides is keeping it from coming off. Please help me. Thank you.

Q:

Does Sears offer a de-thatching blade for the walk behind lawn mowers?

A:

Having to find the proper parts, accessories for an appliance can be a challenge. While you are waiting for an expert to reply I recommend visiting the sears. com website were you can browse through the different accessories that Sears does offer, you also may find a direct number to speak with a sears associate. Below I have provided the link.

Does this blade actually dig into the thatch layer? Or does it mulch more finely than a regular mulching blade?

A:

Erin, the dethatching blade has fingers that protrude down from the ends. These fingers dig the dried, packed grass from beneath the lawn to let air reach the roots of the grass. Because of the fingers, the blade probably does mulch a little more finely than a regular mulching blade. It tears the grass up some though. You wouldn't want to mow with the dethatching blade regularly. The dethatching blade will not give you a pretty lawn. It is good to use one time in the fall or spring to make the grass grow better.

It is much easier than renting a dethatcher and the blades are not expensive. A dethatching blade can be used several times. They will wear out after being used several times.

A:

If you are dethatching tall thick grass, you could strain the lawn mower engine. You would need to mow a path about 1/2 as wide as normal. For a normal yard, the engine will handle it ok.

Q:

drive cable came loose 917374540 Craftsman Mower

A:

Thanks for the inquiry and for being a valued member.

I have attached some directions to help you with this procedure. If your machine does not look like the one shown, it will look something like the one listed as "front transmission", only it will be in the back (but the connection will be similar to one or the other).

I hope this helps and thanks for using SearsPartsDirect.com. We appreciate your business.
