Thank you for your question.

I am sorry you are having a problem with the mower. By what you have stated I suspect the problem is a partly plugged main jet in the carburetor. I recommend removing the spark plug wire and tipping the mower onto its side. Make sure the oil fill tube is down and the air filter up. The remove the float bowl. The float bowl is held on with the main jet. Once you have the bowl off clean the main jet with carb cleaner and a bread tie wire. Make sure all of the holes of the main jet are clean then clean the debris out of the bowl. After it is clean reassemble, the carburetor and tip the mower back down. Then reinstall the spark plug wire and check the operation.

I have found a video that should give you more confidence in doing the repair. The video is for a different engine but should be similar enough to help you. Please click on this link to watch the video .

Please let me know if you need further assistance on the repair of the mower.

Here is a link to order any parts you need. Sears Parts Direct .

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired by a Sears technician. Here is a link that will provide the nearest drop-off locations: Sears Home Services .

Ok, I tried that no bueno! I think it might have something to do with the govenor. Does anyone have a manuel or photos of my model showing the correct layout, I think possibly a spring is missing or the lever is just not attached correctly. It feels really loose.

Thank you for the reply. I am sorry you are still having problems with the mower. I have attached a few images below showing how the linkage connects to the carburetor. I believe this is the model. When the engine is off the choke should be closed. Then one you start the engine the fan on the flywheel should blow on to the vain and open the choke. If the choke were not fully closed the engine would be difficult to start. I hope this is helpful. Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Q:

Lawnmower will start, but won't stay running

A:

It is disappointing when the time needed for outdoor chores is spent trying to get the mower to work. I located a similar question from a previous post for this model that may help get your mower working. I attached the link below. Hope this helps.

The answer Barbara H sent has good information for your problem. Sometimes the fuel passages inside the carburetor get restricted and can't be cleaned. If this happens you need to replace the carburetor.

The part number of the carburetor for your mower is 794304, and the price is $36.22. You can order the carburetor at Parts Direct

You engine has an automatic choke on it that might be causing the problem also. If you need to take the mower in for repair go to Home Services to find the nearest location.
