Q:

How do I remove the blade flange from a Sears Craftsman eager 1 mower, model number 917372341? Thanks

A:

The blade flange just slides on the engine shaft and the blade and bolt hold it on. When the mower is new it will slide on and off easily.

Over time the blade flange rusts to the engine shaft and they can be very difficult to remove.

I suggest draining the oil and fuel from the engine and laying the mower on its side. Clean the engine shaft with some sand cloth to remove the rust below the blade flange. Put some rust buster such as Liquid Wrench on the blade flange and engine shaft liberally. Tap on the blade flange in all directions with a hammer. The vibration caused by the hammer will help the rust buster penetrate better.

You might have to treat the engine shaft and blade flange with rust buster and tap on it several times before it will come off.

If you can get a gear puller to use on the blade flange it would make removing it easier and quicker.
