Q:

Why are the drive wheels on my craftsman mower wearing out so fast?

A:

Thank you for your question.  I agree, replacing the wheels every six months is not a solution. I see that there have been some changes in the wheel adjuster and there is a kit, part #422109 which may help resolve this ongoing issue. It includes a left and right wheel adjuster and front drive pinion and washers. It can be ordered at Sears Parts Direct .  If further help is needed, please reply.  Thank you for using Manage My Life.

Thank you for your question. I am sorry you are having a problem with the mower. I have found a video that should help in replacing the rope. Please click here to watch the video. If you cannot get the spring to rewind, I suspect it is broken. If that is the case I recommend replacing the compete recoil. The reason is it can be difficult and dangerous to replace the spring. If you choose to replace the spring, please wear gloves and eye protection. Here is a link to order any parts you need. Sears Parts Direct . I hope this will help you. If you would like more assistance, reply to this thread and I will assist you further.

Q:

I have a craftsman lawn mower model 917371920 that wont start.

A:

Getting to know where all the parts are located on a mower can help when problems do develop. It would be upsetting to continue to have issues with a mower that has seen the repair shop often. While you wait for the expert to review this situation and respond, I did attach the links to the manual and the parts diagrams at Sears Parts Direct. These may help locate that safety switch. I hope we can help you get back to cutting that lawn before it gets too tall.

Thank you for your question.

I am sorry you are having a problem with the mower. According to the parts list this model does not have a safety switch for the bagger. Usually when a mower will not start, it is because of old fuel or a dirty carburetor. I recommend checking the fuel first. If the fuel is older than 5 weeks old, the tank should be drained and refilled with fresh fuel. If this does not help remove the air filter, and pour a thimble of fuel into the throat of the carburetor. Then try to start the engine. If the mower starts the problem is fuel related. To cure the problem you can try to clean the carburetor. I have found a video that shows how to clean the carburetor. Click here to watch the video.

I hope this is helpful. Please let me know if you need further assistance.
