I know that it can be very frustrating to have issues with your lawn mower. If you have a volt meter, check for 12VDC at the starter while someone turns the key as if to start. If there is no voltage there I suspect the batteries have failed. If there is voltage there it is most likely going to be a failed starter. Let me know what you find and we can proceed as necessary. I hope this helps. If you need further assistance, please reply to this thread. Thank you for using Manage My Life.

Q:

Craftsman walk behine mower #917371611: A few weeks I ordered a new battery from Sears, part #189589. The battery worked for 1 week, then it failed, read 6.3V

A:

What I would recommend you do is taking the battery back to the store because if it was in a bad condition maybe that could have caused that. An expert shall have a better answer to your question shortly. Usually an expert will respond to the question within 24 to 48 hours. Have a wonderful day.

It sounds like there is a problem with the battery you were sent as a replacement. If the battery appears to be used it is possible a mistake was made and a returned battery was sent out as a new battery.

If the battery is not causing the problem then I would suspect the charger. I have seen the transformers fail and put out too much voltage. Normally this would damage the battery though and it would be evident from looking at it.
