Hi Clyde,

Thank you for submitting a question to Manage My Life.

The cable hooks onto the little transmission on the back left side. Basically the transmission should rest at an angle. When you engage the drive cable, this will raise the transmission up and make it level. That action causes the belt to tighten and the transmission to then drive. I am including some images below that should help you with this.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired by a Sears technician. Here is a link that will provide the nearest drop-off locations: Sears Home Services .

Here is a link that you may use to view the parts list diagram or purchase any parts needed for your appliance; Sears Parts Direct .

I hope this is helpful. If I may be of further assistance please include more details in a reply to this post.

Each time I connect the cable to the transmission (hole on the back left ) it pops off when the control handle is compressed. Is this the right connection? The diagram does not show that connection.

Clyde,

Without being able to see what you are referring to I am unable to understand what you are talking about. If you can send images of the cable and show me what is happening I will be happy to assist you further.

Attached is a picture of the cable up to the transmission. There's a small hole in the lower right of the picture, is this where the cable goes?

Clyde,

You need to turn the mower up on its side with the gear case up. The cable hooks on the bottom side of the gear case with the cable ran down through the slot I have marked.

Yes. I'm not sure about the bagger but...I've attached a link to the owners manual just as reference material. I've also attached a link to the parts breakdown. Hopefully you can identify the parts that you need there. The cable should be item #29. Also attached is the parts breakdown for your engine. The rope should be item #58.
