Q:

how to install drive cable on lawn mower 917370714 917370714 Craftsman Mower

A:

Thank you for choosing sears I would happy to help you with your lawn mower. Upon researching model 917370714; there are not any specific procedures or instructions available for replacing this assembly. Here are some tips that should help you replace this assembly: Remove the cable from the drive control bar. The top of the cable housing appears to be secured to the handle by one bolt. Remove the bolt. You may also find some cable ties that secure the cable to the handle further down that will need to be removed. Remove the drive cover, after removing the driver cover, you may see the other end of the cable still connected to a bracket beside the drive pulley on top of the gear case assembly. The image below shows where the cable connects. It is best to tip the mower on its side to access the cable. When you tip it, be sure the air filter is up. Disconnect the end of the cable and remove it. Attach the end of the new cable and mount it properly. Replace the drive cover,
Mount the top of the cable housing on the handle,
Attach the top end of the cable to the drive control bar,
Secure the cable to the lower part of the handle with the cable tie(s).

Thank you for choosing Sears Parts Direct. I will be more than happy to help with your lawn mower. Upon researching model 917370714; the cable is attached to the top of the handle by a bolt and nut. Route the cable the same way as the old one. The cable is then attached to the idler arm assembly. I linked the manual and on page 15 it shows how its connected to the bracket.

Thank you for choosing Sears. We appreciate your business. Have a great day.

A:

Thank you for the inquiry and for using ManageMyLife.com.

Yes, you can definitely use the Mobil 1 engine oil for the mower. As long as the oil is 30 weight engine motor oil, it would be safe to use. It will require 1 quart.

If you have any further questions or inquiries, please don't hesitate to ask. Thank you for using ManageMyLife.com.

Thank you for your question.

I am sorry you are having a problem with removing the pinion. Once you have the wheel removed, you have to remove the retainer clip that keeps the pinion from coming off. I have posted an image below that shows where the retainer clip is. Just click on the image to enlarge it. To remove the retainer, use a flat blade screwdriver. Once it is removed, the pinion should slide off the drive shaft. Before installing the new pinion, wipe off any lubrication. If the pinion is lubed it might not function properly.

I hope this is helpful. Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Thank you for using Manage my life.
