Q:

starter cord will not pull out all of the way 917370650 Craftsman Mower

A:

Thanks for the inquiry and for being a valued member.

I am sorry to hear of the issue you're having with the mower. I know how frustrating that is.

Yes, you can tip the mower on its side. Just make sure the air filter is right side up. It would be the same process as if you were doing an oil change. It sounds like something is binding down by the blade area, maybe a clog of grass or something else. Tall grass like that can clump and make the blade not want to spin freely, especially if it's moist.

I hope this helps and thanks for using SearsPartsDirect.com. We appreciate your business.

Q:

Oil filter numbers. 917289240 and 917370650

A:

Thanks for the inquiry and for using SearsPartsDirect.com.
Anytime you need engine related parts, you need to identify the engine model number from the mower and plug that into SearsPartsDirect.com. For the riding mower, the engine model is 331877-1234-B1, and the oil filter is part number 696854. The push mower engine model is 126T02-1525-B1, and it does not use an oil filter.
I have provided a blue link below for the tractor's oil filter, just click the link to be directed to the PartsDirect page to view and purchase when needed.

Oil Filter for Model 331877-1234-B1

Hope this helps and thanks for using SearsPartsDirect.com.

Q:

Rope-Starter broken 917370650 Craftsman Mower

A:

Thank you for choosing Sears Parts Direct. I can certainly understand how frustrating it can be when needing to replace your starter rope on your mower. I did look into the model number you have provided and found information on how to install the rope.   Becareful when replacing the starter rope becasue the spring can fly off and cut you or hit you. We do recommend replacing the complete starter asssembly so our customers do not put themselves in danger.

You need to remove the cover from the top of the engine with the grill in it. There are some screws in the front of the cover holding it on.

Drill the four rivets holding the starter to the metal blower housing on the engine. Remove the starter from the blower housing.

Remove the pulley  from the starter assembly. Be careful as you remove the pulley to not let the spring unwind. Remove any rope left in the pulley and attach the end of the starter rope to the pulley.

Run the rope through the opening at the top of the starter, and install the pulley back into position on the starter housing. Rotate the pulley as you reel the rope inside the pulley. This will put the tension in the spring so it will retract the rope.

The spring on the back of the pulley will unwind violently if it comes off the pulley. It can cut you or puncture you if this happens. Be very careful with the spring as you are doing this.

You will need some small bolts and nuts to replace the starter housing to the top of the engine. You can use pop rivets instead of bolts and nuts if you want.

You can replace the complete starter assembly also. The starter assembly has a new rope already wound on the pulley. You drill out the rivets and remove the old starter. Install the new starter to the top of the blower housing with the 4 bolts and nuts that are in the package.

Let me know if this helps. Thank you for your question. Have a great day.

Q:

Make slower

A:

Mower speed is often has one speed. I located the owner's manual. It should have information to cover this. If not, the expert will review and respond within two days if not sooner. I attached the link below. I hope this helps.

Thanks for the info. I did check out the manual and it really didn't answer that question. My father's previous model had a lever where you could adjust the speed from turtle to rabbit but there is nothing like that on this model. Maybe it isn't possible to adjust it.

Hello Linda,

I would like to assist you with your question. The model that your father has does not have any speed adjustment. Some people have luck feathering the drive handle and not fully depressing it. This may help a little, but it may prove to be difficult with this type of drive handle.

I wish that I had a better answer for you, please let me know if I may be of any further assistance.
