Question and Answers

Q:

bearing replacement 917299850 Craftsman Rear tine, gas tiller

A:

Thanks for the inquiry and for using SearsPartsDirect.com.
You are correct, you do need to split the transmission to make those repairs. The reason is the bearing has a shoulder on the inside that prevents it from coming out. During disassembly, do yourself a favor and take pictures to make the reassembly go smoother. Sears Parts also has an exploded view of the transmission to help you if needed.
Hope this helps and thanks for using SearsPartsDirect.com. We appreciate your business.

The link given by Pvalde2 is correct information in regards to the situation with your tiller. Most likely some gears in the transmission have jammed against each other. This "stall" in the transmission is being transferred to the engine and causing it to die when you try to till.

I believe that you can use pulley number 145102 with snap ring number 1099 on the new transmission. I have no way to be absolutely sure though. I do know that the pulley number I just gave you has the "D" or "half-moon" type hole for the shaft. I just cannot seem to find the size of the pulley listed anywhere.

If the pulley shows up and it's bigger or smaller, you may have to use a different belt size, but from what I can tell it will be the same size.

I have ordered pulley number 145102. It should be a 10" pulley according to my supplier. I'll see if it works when it arrives and let you know! Thanks!
