Question and Answers

Q:

why wont it keep tilling Craftsman 4 HP Tiller model #917299641

A:

Thanks for the inquiry and for using SearsPartsDirect.com.
Sorry to hear of the issue you are having with the tines stopping after a few minutes, I know how frustrating that can be to have occur.

Check that nothing has been damaged or knocked out of place with the shift rod. This model has pretty limited adjustment there, but excess play or wear or any damage could be limiting the range of motion so that the F-Tine position is not fully engaged. There could be similar engagement issues with the drive control bar that are also contributing to the problem.
If everything seems okay there, check the drive belt itself. Be sure it is in good condition and set according to your owners manual or the engagement might not be correct or full.
If everything looks okay in all those areas then the problem might be inside the transmission and you may want to consult a professional for more in-depth testing and repair.
If you would feel more confident have a Sears Home Service technician help assist with the diagnosis/repair, you can call 1-800-349-5071, or click here to be directed to the page to set up service.
Hope this helps and thanks for using SearsPartsDirect.com.

Q:

Handle #24 in diagram for tiller model #917.299641 917299641 Craftsman 4 h.p. tiller

A:

Thanks for the inquiry and for using SearsPartsDirect.com.
Due to the age of this tiller, the handle assembly has been discontinued with no direct substitute offered. The only viable option I see would be to run an online internet search for the part number of 121213X to see if there are any still in circulation. Outside of that option, you would need to fabricate something in place.
Sorry for the inconvenience and let us know if we can be of any further assistance. Thanks for using SearsPartsDirect.com.
