Unfortunately, we could not locate any diagrams, instructions, or photos to show the routing of this specific cable. There are some YouTube videos that show the replacement of clutch cables on other brands of tillers that you could check out to get a reference.

Q:

Difficulty/Won't shift 917299080 Craftsman Tiller

A:

Thanks for the post and for being a valued member.

Very informative, and I am sure it will help others in the same situation with hard shifts. Going to your point that there is no mention of the grease fitting, it is shown on page 14 of the owner's manual in the lubrication chart. The fitting should be greased every 50 hours of run time. I usually like to perform lubrication maintenance when I'm changing the oil.

You're right though, yard equipment left in the elements is tough on them, and if you don't have a shed to put it in, it should be at least covered with a tarp or cover.

Thanks again for your commend and for using SearsPartsDirect.com. We appreciate your business.

Q:

Tiller seems to have to much compression 917.299080

A:

Thank you for choosing Sears Parts Direct. I will be happy to help with your tiller. Upon researching model number 917.299080; it sounds like something has seized inside the engine. Usually removing the spark plug would allow it to turn and sometimes throw oil out. The crankshaft could be damaged.

Thank you for choosing Sears. We appreciate your business. Have a great day.
