Q:

how do you install a new belt that drives the tines on a model 917298131 rototiller?

A:

I can appreciate your need for proper instruction in regards to replacing your rototiller belt.  I've located your owner's manual and they discuss the V belt on page 19.  Click here to view the link.  Keep in mind that an expert will be
responding within the next two business days if not sooner and will likely offer you more information and
instruction. I hope this information will be helpful and have a nice day.

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

I was not able to locate the Owner's Manual for your specific older model but I added link to another model that will be basically the same as far as accessing and replacing the belt.  Look on page 16 and it will have the instructions. You will need to remove belt guard to access the belt.

I hope this is helpful. If I may be of further assistance as more details become available, please reply to this post.

Q:

Problem with ground wire on a craftsman engine on an old tiller.

A:

I know how important it is to have all of the wiring in its proper place on the tractor to assure it is working properly. While you are waiting for your expert answer, I know that only the expert can provide you with a wiring diagram and he or she will be happy to respond within 48 hours. I am adding a link in where you can enter your appliance model number and the owners manual for your appliance will pop up. I hope my link is useful.

Thank you for your question.

I am sorry you are having a problem finding where the wire should connect. The ground wire is connected to the magneto on one end and to the engine control on the other. I have posted an image below that shows where it connects to the control. As long as the bare part of the wire is not touching metal, the engine should have spark. If the engine des not have spark I recommend removing the starter to access the magneto. Then remove the kill wire from the magneto and check for spark. If you still do not have spark I suspect the magneto is defective.

I hope this is helpful. Please let me know if you need further assistance on the repair.
