Question and Answers

Jumping out of gear when tilling 917297031 Craftsman Tiller

The choke lever pin broke in the carburetor, do I need to buy a new carburetor for this tiller?

The carburetor is part of the engine assembly so parts for it will be shown under the engine model number in your Owner's Manual or at Sears PartsDirect see the image below from your manual for more.

If the individual part is not shown in either of those places you will likely need to replace the complete carburetor. Check carefully that none of the broken parts or pieces were drawn into the engine where they could cause a lot of damage.

Any problem with the carburetor or its linkages can quickly lead to expensive and potentially dangerous engine damage so we recommend any carburetor repair or adjustment be performed by a professional to be sure your unit runs safely and reliably to its full potential and still meets emissions standards.
