Question and Answers

Q:

Where can I find a manual for an old Sears Roto Spader?

A:

The model number you provided is not a valid model number. Do you think the model could be 917.296351? If this is the correct model then you can view and download the Owner's manual at Manage My Life . The voltage for the spark plug is produce by the coil assembly located on the side of the flywheel. There is a magnet in one area of the flywheel and when the magnet passes by the coil assembly it causes the coil to produce voltage. The coil is likely bad if there is no spark at the plug or the coil is grounded. Make sure the throttle is not on stop or remove the ground wire before checking for spark. Locate the kill/ground wire and disconnect it and then see if gets fire at the plug in case the ground wire is grounded.

I got the model number right off the data plate on the horizontal deck of the tiller. Reconfirming the model number is 785 296351 254 and the tag says SEARS Roto-Spader. The tiller is kind of a butterscotch yellow color & the engine itself is an off-white. It is old, but still in fairly good shape. Also, on the aft end of the removable engine cover it is stamped with 143 255072 sn5182A....this is just above the spark plug hole when the cover is installed on the engine. So, I still need help finding a data for this machine.
