Question and Answers

Q:

Machine stuck in gear what can I do 917293180 Craftsman Tiller

A:

Thank You for choosing Sears PartsDirect.com and being a valued member. It is unfortunate to hear that you are having issues with your tiller and I do understand your frustration. Glad to help out. I'm looking at your model number 917293180 and it may not be shifting completely in gear or locking in gear. The problem will be in either the shifter or the transmission. I recommend moving the shift while watching the shifter shaft that passes through the transaxle. If the shaft moves while moving the shifter, the problem is in the transmission. Watch the shift arm to confirm it's shifting all the way into gear. If it appears to moving fully, then I suspect a problem within the transmission and it should be taken in for diagnoses and repair. Here is a link that will further help with your troubleshooting. I trust this information will help you.

Thank you for choosing Sears PartsDirect.com.

I have attached the only photos I have of this carburetor linkage set up. I'll see if I can locate more and attach them as I find them. If these work, that's great. If they don't, let me know back and I'll put a rush on trying to find more.

Since you didn't take any photos of this (and most people don't, no reason to feel bad) I have attached some photos of this situation that I have.

I'm sure it will make better sense to you after you view the photos. If not, hit me back up and I'll see if I can find some better pictures of the situation. If I can't, it will be after Christmas before I have any. I'll be "back home" for Christmas and I have one of these engines sitting in my shop in Louisiana and I'll take some photos while I'm there.
