Question and Answers

Q:

The battery will not charge 917289261 Craftsman Tractor

Q:

How do I adjust mower deck belt on tractor mod#917.289261 917.289261

A:

Thank you for choosing Sears Parts Direct. I will be more than happy to help with lawn tractor. Upon researching model 917.289261; the belt is not adjustable. The tensioner is what’s used to keep tension on the belt. The pulley has a bearing inside that can seize up and make the belt snap. It is always best to replace the pulley when replacing the belt.

Thank you for choosing Sears. Have a great day.

Q:

Sears Tractor Transmission Fluid

A:

Having a fluid leaking from your tractor sounds like an inconvenience and its best to find out what is causing this problem and I will be happy to help. While you are waiting for an expert answer, I did manage to find a link that describes a similar problem to the one that you are having with tractor. I hope my link is useful.

Thank you for you question.

I know it is concerning when you think there is a problem with the tractor. I have checked the model number you have submitted. The transaxle in your tractor uses 20W50 motor oil. What you are describing is automatic transmission fluid and it is not used in this tractor. I recommend looking all over the transaxle to see if you see any signs of oil residue. If you think it might be leaking I recommend calling to set up service. If it is confirmed, there is not a charge to have it repaired.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Thank you for using Manage my life.

Thanks for the information..., I am now going to bet that my tractor is in perfect running condition. With your expert answer, I am now wondering if the bright red after market v-belt on the snowblower that I put on might be bleeding the red color. That would explain why I only notice it when using that attachment. I will soak the old belt in water to confirm if there is color bleed form it. I will post my results later. Thanks so much for your help and information!!

So..., the bright red v-belt on the snow blower, bleeds red when in contact with water.., So it appears like this is my answer; When I was stuck in the snow and rocking the tractor back and forth to get unstuck, I would lift the snowblower, making the belt drain the melted snow to the back of the tractor, leaving a red residue under the rear axle that is the same color as transmission fluid. Since the EXPERT has indicated that the tractor does not use red fluid, and that the axle has oil in it instead of transmission fluid..., this seems to indicate that my tractor is still running as good as new. Thanks again for the insight and for helping to clear my concerns!! This was so much better than having the Sears service phone line computer send a technician to my house to find out this answer.
