Question and Answers

Q:

Drive belt is too tight on automatic trans mower 917289220 Craftsman Tractor

A:

Thank you for choosing Sears parts direct. I will be happy to help with your lawn tractor. Upon researching model number 917289220; unfortunately we don’t go by belt size. We use OEM parts. There are different material and belt compositions. The one installed may have some stretch when it heats up. I recommend using the OEM belt before looking for a malfunctioning part.

Q:

solenoid 917289220 Craftsman Tractor

A:

Thanks for the inquiry and for being a valued member.

The solenoid is an intregal component in the starting circuit and will need to be kept in place. The solenoids are pretty dependable components and it's very unlikely it's failed twice in 9 months. I would recommend testing the solenoid to make sure. I have posted a video below that will help you with the testing. It could be that you have a bad ground or a safety switch issue.
