Q:

runs rough SV7350016 Kohler Engine

A:

Thanks for the inquiry and for being a valued member.

You are probably right, the ignition module on the right side is sporadic and is not consistently generating spark, and you're only running on one cylinder. Kohler has discontinued the older style of ignition for a newer updated MDI system. This new MDI no longer requires 12 volts to function.

The kit needed for this SV735 series Kohler engine is part number 32-707-01-S. It will include both modules, and everything needed to make the conversion. It should also include installation or conversion instructions.

I hope this helps and thanks for using SearsPartsDirect.com. We appreciate your business.

I had the same problem with my 917.287462 mower. Ordered the 32-707-01-S kit, installed it, and the mower started but then died after about 10 seconds. I tried it a second time with the same results, now the mower won't start at all. I double checked everything to make sure that I installed the kit correctly. Appreciate any advice/help.

Thank You Carloz, I ended up purchasing 4 modules, I didn't realize the kit came with the two needed modules. If I may, I have another question for you or your staff. I installed the module kit per the instructions that came with the parts and I'm having problems. i tried starting the engine that ran prior to converting over the modules, and it ran roughly 5 seconds back fired and died and would not restart. At that point I had to solicit some help. Currently we've tried all four new modules, most of the time there is no spark! At one point in time we got spark so we got the tractor started but it backfired wildly, so then we adjusted the valves to the spec of .004/.006 for both intake and exhaust they were at 10 thousands prior to adjusting. The tractor would not fire up after this. We adjusted and re-adjusted the module gaps. We tried three different sets of plugs so its not a plug issue. We pulled the flywheel off thinking maybe we spun the drift key, but it was aligned perfectly with no problems. Somebody suggested the magnet might be bad on the flywheel. Is this possible? It has a lot of magnetic pull on it. My help is totally baffled and I didn't care for the suggestions. Return the modules as defective< whats the odds of 4 of them being defective, buying a new fly wheel cause i notice you can't just replace the magnet. Out of answers, does anybody have a solution for me?

Q:

917.287462 pto problem 917287462 Craftsman Tractor

A:

Thanks for the inquiry and for being a valued member.

I am sorry to hear of the issue you're having with the tractor. I know how frustrating that is.

This type of issue is typically caused by one of the tractor's safety switches. There are three safety switches on the unit. There is the seat switch, blade engagement interlock switch, and the brake/clutch interlock switch.

I would start by cleaning the contacts and making sure the connectors are firmly secured. If that doesn't help, you will need to test the switches for continuity with a meter. To help you do so, I have linked a short video below that you can watch.

I hope this helps and thanks for using SearsPartsDirect.com. We appreciate your business.
