Q:

Sears DGS-6500 foot pedal fwd/reverse is sticky 917287460 Craftsman Tractor

A:

Thanks for the inquiry and for being a valued member.

I would jack the tractor up and remove the right rear wheel. Look on the side of the transaxle at the bracket the pedal control rod attaches to.

The right side spring is the return to neutral spring. You might just need to clean this area with some carb cleaner or WD40.

I hope this helps and thanks for using SearsPartsDirect.com. We appreciate your business.

Thanks.. I see the spring, and one end is broken off. I have a new one on order. But I don't see on the parts/schematic diagram where one end connects to the moving plate that controls the fwd/backward motion. I have a picture on my phone. There is a hole between a post at the top where a small compression strut attaches. Does anyone have a picture/diagram that shows that connection point better, please

I found this picture on page 9 figure 5 of this Hydro Gear manual for the return mechanism... http://www.hydro-gear.com/main/service/service-repair-manuals/docs/service-repair-manuals/310-3000 I am hoping based upon the information here that is the correct location for the return spring.

Q:

deck belt 917287460 Craftsman Tractor

A:

Thanks for the inquiry and for being a valued member.

I recommend checking the belt keepers. If the belt keepers are not close enough to the pulleys, the belt will come off. Start at the engine pulley. If the keeper is far enough away for the belt to fit between pulley and the keeper, it has to be adjusted. As a general rule of thumb, they should be about 1/8” away from the belt. Once you have it close to the engine pulley check the rest of the keepers. If all of the keepers are ok, turn all of the pulleys. If they wobble or the bearings sound bad, they should be replaced. The final check is the level of the deck. If the deck is pitched too low in the front, the belt will come off when you engage the blades. Deck adjustments are covered in the owner’s manual.

I hope this helps and thanks for using SearsPartsDirect.com. We appreciate your business.
