Looking at the information, make sure all the connections from and too the battery are clean and corrosion free also tightly on there .

Also anything the battery connects too make sure its the same as above. Its that checks out ok then check or replace the regulator. If that's all good then check/ replace the alternator.

Hope this information has help you. If you are not comfortable doing this repair you can Click Here to schedule a technician or call toll free 1-800-469-4663.

Thank you for contacting SearsPartsDirect.com with your question about your Craftsman Lawn Tractor model 917.28730. I am so sorry you are having continuing issues with starting the engine. I will be happy to help you with this.

The model number you submitted with this question was missing the last number. I researched your previous question to verify it should end with 1 and not a 0. (This is significant because the engines on the 917.287300 and the 917.287301 are different models. If I have the wrong model number for your tractor please resubmit your question with the complete, correct model number.)

Whenever the battery and the solenoid need to be replaced, you should also replace the ignition switch and spark plug. Numerous attempts to turn over the engine can cause these parts to fail also. I have included the links below for those parts.

Your engine has an alternator and a regulator that will need to be tested to determine if one or both of them need to be replaced. Since your engine is a Briggs and Stratton, (model number 446677-0463-E1), I have included the link for you to view Briggs and Stratton's Electrical System Testing Guide.

I have included the links for the alternator and the regulator for you. Once you determine the problem you can use the link to order the part.

I hope this answers your question. If you need further assistance, please resubmit your question with additional details. Thank you for choosing Sears, we appreciate your business.
