Question and Answers

Q:

Will 46" snowthrower part # 486248460 fit Craftsman tractor 917287280 ( 46" DYS4500) ? 917287280

A:

Thanks for the inquiry and for using SearsPartsDirect.com.

The snow thrower attachment called for on your model of tractor, 917287280, is part number 24837 or model number 486.24837.

The main issue you would have making this snow thrower attachment work is with the mounting. After pulling up both attachments, the mounting brackets are different and the there are offsets in the bolt hole patterns. You would need to punch out new holes in the frame to make it work, which can be a pain to do, but is possible with some fabrication.

Sears always recommends purchasing the attachment made for your model of tractor, which is the part/model number provided above. Also, attachment 486.248460 was manufactured in 1998, so there may be additional servicing and maintenance required in getting it ready to be used. Just another consideration.

Hopefully this helps and let us know if we can be of any further assistance. Thanks for using SearsPartsDirect.com.

Q:

Does 48" dozer blade part # 486244120 fit tractor 917287280 (46 in Craftsman dys4500) ? 917287280

A:

Thanks for the inquiry and for using SearsPartsDirect.com.

Dozer blades can only be used on Garden Tractors with 23" rear wheels or taller and heavy duty transmissions. Your 46" DYS4500 is a Lawn Tractor and does not have the transmission and chassis capabilities to handle the Dozer Blade.

You would need the 42" Snow Blade for this model of tractor. The part number is 24441 and the model number is 486.24441.

Let us know if we can be of any further assistance and thanks for using SearsPartsDirect.com.

Q:

How do I remove the oil filter on my Craftsman tractor model 917.287280?

A:

You are correct the oil filter should just unscrew. You needs to use and oil filter wrench to remove the filter. I have provided you with a picture of an oil filter wrench below. Place the wrench near the base of the oil filter and turn the filter counter clockwise. If the seal on the oil filter was not oiled before installing it could be harder to remove. When installing the new filter dip your finger into oil and wipe it onto the seal of the new filter. Oiling the seal will help the seal from sticking and making it easier to remove in the future.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .
