Q:

Movement problem 917287080 Craftsman Tractor

A:

Thanks for the inquiry and for being a valued member.

I am sorry to hear of the issue you're having with the tractor. I know how frustrating that is.

This type of issue is typically caused by one of the tractor's safety switches. There are three safety switches on the unit. There is the seat switch, blade engagement interlock switch, and the brake/clutch interlock switch.

I would start by cleaning the contacts and making sure the connectors are firmly secured. If that doesn't help, you will need to test the switches for continuity with a meter. To help you do so, I have linked a short video below that you can watch.

I hope this helps and thanks for using SearsPartsDirect.com. We appreciate your business.

Q:

carb backfire on start up 917287080

A:

Thank You for choosing Sears PartsDirect.com and being a valued member. It is unfortunate to hear that you are having issues with your lawn tractor and I do understand your frustration. Glad to help out. I'm looking at your model number 917287080 and one of the valves might be stuck or just needs adjusting. Something is causing the engine to fire out of time. It is possible that the flywheel key is sheared as that will cause all of these things to happen. Typically the key is not an issue unless the flywheel has been off recently. The other thing that can cause this (but is not as common for backfiring) is a problem with the carburetor. If the machine sits for an extended amount of time this is something to be concerned with. If it has not sat for a few months of no running then it's not nearly so likely of an issue. The carburetor may also need to be cleaned. Also, check the oil just to make sure it is not overfilled and/or saturated with gas as that can cause similar problems. I trust this information will help you.

Thank you for choosing Sears PartsDirect.com.
