Tires Towed out 917280084 Craftsman Tractor

A:

Thank you for choosing Sears Parts Direct. I will be more than happy to help with your lawn tractor. Upon researching model917280084; I am sorry you are having a problem with your Craftsman lawn tractor.

This particular tractor does not have an adjustment for the front tire alignment. The front end toe-in and camber are not adjustable on this tractor.

I would suggest you start by examining the tie-rod. It can become bent and cause the alignment of the front tires to be off.

I trust this information will help you, we appreciate your business thank for choosing Sears.

Q:

Anti Sway bar installation Model917.280084

A:

Hello, glad to help.  Thank You for choosing Sears PartsDirect.com. We, at Sears, value your service.

I am sorry and do understand your frustration when looking to repair the parts on the tractor.

Glad to help out.  I’m looking at your Craftsman Tractor model number 917.280084.

I am sorry that I do not have a video to show and help.   I hope these directions below though will help.  Good luck.

SWAY BAR INSTALLATION:

NOTE:  Before installing this kit park unit on a flat and level surface, turn off the engine, and remove the ignition key (if so equipped).  Set the parking brake (if so equipped).

1.  Disconnect the negative (black) battery cable from the negative battery terminal first and then disconnect the positive (red) battery cable from the positive battery terminal.

2.  Remove the existing sway bar rod and bow tie cotter pins and discard.

3.  When replacing the sway bar also inspect the lift cables, roller cable pulleys and lift links for any wear or damage.  Replace parts as needed.

4.  Support the left side of the deck with wood blocking just high enough to allow some slack in the left side lift cable.

5.  Remove the bow-tie cotter pin securing the left side lift cable to the lift arm.

6.  Remove the left side lift cable from the lift arm.

7.  Carefully remove the wood blocking from under the left side of the deck and allow the deck to hang down.

8.  Install the new sway bar rod into the left hand link hole located under the lift cable hole and hand thread one 5/16 inch - 18 flange locknut onto the sway bar rod until contact with the nylon is made.

9.  Swing the other end of the sway bar rod into the hole in the hydro mount bracket and install the nylon lock flange nut.

10.  Raise the deck by replacing the wood blocking under the left side of the deck.

11.  Re-install the left lift cable onto the left lift link and secure the bow-tie cotter pin that was removed.

12.  Ensure that the lift cable is set correctly in the lift cable pulley before removing the wood blocking.

13.  Raise the deck to the middle position.

14.  Secure the end of the sway bar rod at the hydro mount bracket with a nylon flange locknut.

15.  Tighten both of the nylon flange lock nuts bottom out on the threads of the sway bar rod.  Do not over-tighten.  The sway bar rod needs to pivot/rotate freely when the mower deck is raised or lowered.

16.  Connect the red positive cable to the positive battery terminal first and then connect the black negative battery cable to the negative battery terminal.

17.  Start the unit and confirm that all safety features are operating correctly.
