Q:

Brake Adjustment 917276911 Craftsman Tractor

A:

Thanks for the inquiry and for being a valued member.

You will need to remove the right rear wheel from the tractor, and support the tractor with a jack or jack stand on that side.

You will see a nut on the center of the brake lever, and you will want to adjust that until you have about an inch and half on the coiled spring from top of the lever to the first nut on the brake rod. When you adjust the nut, do a quarter or a half a turn at a time, that may be all that you need.

To help you out, I have linked below a list of videos that will show how to adjust the brakes. They are not model specific, but the process is very similar between the units.

Inspect the shift fork and related components inside the transmission first. You could have a problem there. Use the parts list diagram of the transmission as a guidel when you examine the components.

Q:

ride on mower part installation

A:

This rod helps keep the mower deck from swinging left/right as you're using it. Some machines have it and don't really need it. If your machine tosses the deck belt pretty often then you need to get the rod (pt 400337 for yours).

The rod may be on yours and you just didn't see it as it can look very different on come models. If you look at the parts drawings for your machine, the rod is key 12 on the deck page. It will connect into the hanger on the right side of the deck and then go across (to the left side) and slightly up where it will connect onto a bracket mounted to the chassis or to the transmission (varies by model).
