Q:

I have a "no charge" problem ... the battery is not being recharged. 917276905 Craftsman Tractor

A:

Thanks for the inquiry and for being a valued member.

To help you with the diagnosis of the stator/regulator charging system, I have located the engine specific service manual. I have linked the page below. You will need to click on the applicable engine for the service manual. Your engine is a Kohler SV735-0017 (Courage/Pro Twin). Once you click on that and download the service manual, the regulator/electrical testing is covered on page 42.

Q:

Ground Drive Issue 917.276905

A:

Thank you for choosing SearsPartsDirect.com. I will be more than happy to assist you. I can understand any frustration you may have experienced with regards to your unit. Let’s see what we can do for you.

The chances of a pulley being bad would be pretty slim, unless your belt is getting walked off every time drive is engaged. The main cause would be a stretched belt, or bad idler pulley. The idler would be the one that keeps tension on the belt so it can contact all the other pulleys fully.

Hope this information has helped you. If you are not comfortable doing this repair you can click here to schedule a technician or call toll free 1-800-469-4663. Again, thank you for choosing SearsPartsDirect.com.

Same problem. Had to use belt dressing on old belt and that worked temporarily. New belt this week. Same problem. Belt dressing helps but only temporarily. There are two "idler pulleys"...one is flat and one is V. Is there a spring or something that creates more tension on the belt by one of these idler pulleys?
