Q:

My rear axel won't turn 917276801 Craftsman Tractor

A:

Thanks for the inquiry and for being a valued member.

I am sorry to hear of the motion issue you’re having with the tractor. I know how frustrating that is.

First, try purging the transaxle. The instructions for purging are located in the manual. If that does not work, try hooking your foot under the brake pedal and pull back.  If the noise goes away and the speed picks up, I recommend checking the belt and clutch. First, clean the area around the clutch. Then lube the pivots with light oil. If this does not cure the problem, inspect the return spring.

This could be the brakes sticking on the transmission. Check where the brake rod connects to the transmission and push it forward. It's best to do this with someone on the tractor and the engine running. Use a long screwdriver to push the rod forward and then have them try to drive the tractor without pushing the clutch/brake.

If the brakes are not sticking then the transmission itself may be locked up. Also, if you've had one of the rear wheels off recently, it's possible that the axle key did not make it back into place. Without the axle key, the machine will not move but it will sound like it'd driving as the axles are being driven but the wheels cannot move.

I hope this helps and thanks for using SearsPartsDirect.com. We appreciate your business.
