I had read that link just before I saw your msg. I tried pulling back on the brake pedal and I finally got some action when putting it in gear - grinding. Now what? BTW - thanks for your response.

Thank you for your question.

I am sorry you are having a problem with the tractor. With the free wheel pushed in the tractor should be harder to push. If it is still easy to push with it in, I recommend checking where the free wheel rod is connected to the transaxle. If the rod is connected to the lever and is working, I suspect the problem is in the transaxle. You can try setting the parking brake and pushing the tractor. If you can push the tractor, the transaxle needs to be replaced.
I hope this is helpful. Please let me know what you find.

Thanks for your response. I read somewhere that said the brake might be stuck, so I pulled back on it a few times, kept moving the shifter, and it finally started moving. I am now trying to figure out why I can't get it into full throttle without it dying. I adjusted the throttle and cleaned the air filter. no good. I read about fuel stabilizer and got some of that. When I was going to add it, I could see a big line of blood-red gook in the gas tank. It had started out as just a jew drops of like oil-looking stuff about 2 years ago, but it now has a thick, solid line plastered to the bottom of the gas tank. Any ideas on what that is? The motor runs really well on middle and low speeds.

If you just want to swap the engines then it should be no problem. You may have to cut/splice the wiring from the engine in order to have everything work (charging and headlights) but other than that I see no problem with the engines going back and forth.
