Q:

Dies when clutch is disengaged 917276412 Craftsman Tractor

A:

Thanks for the inquiry and for being a valued member.

I am sorry to hear of the issue you're having with the tractor dying. I know how frustrating that is.

This definitely sounds like a symptom of a loose or dirty connection on one of the tractor's safety switches. The switch itself could also be in need of replacement. Chances are it's coming from the clutch/brake switch, but it could also be coming from the blade engagement switch, or the seat switch. I would start by checking the clutch/brake switch connection and then test it with a multimeter. I have linked a video below that shows how to properly test them for continuity.

Q:

installing pto cable 917276412 Craftsman Tractor

A:

Thank you for your question.

I am sorry you are having this problem with the tractor. I will be happy to assist you. You should not have to remove the mower deck to replace the clutch cable. Lowering the mower deck to the lowest position will usually give you enough room to access the cable. If you have difficulties reaching the cable, you can remove the mower deck to gain better access. I posted an image below that has the instructions for removing the deck. Just click on the image to enlarge it. I also posted a second image that has the instructions for replacing the cables.
