Diagram for ground belt drive 917276070 Craftsman Tractor

A:

Thanks for the inquiry and for being a valued member.

I presume you are referring to the routing of the ground drive belt. The owner's manual gives step-by-step instructions for the belt installation on page 23, with a diagram of the belt routing on 24. For convenience, I have linked the owner's manual below in case you don't have it.

Thank you for your question.

I am sorry you are having a problem with the linkage. I looked up the service manual for your engine. The manual does not show the linkage very good on one page. I posted all the linkage images in manual in the image below. Just click on the image to enlarge it.

I hope this is helpful. Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Q:

Garden Tractor model 917.276070 has eaten belts since it was new. Is there a fix? The inside of the primary mower belt vibrates aganst the deck bracket.

A:

It can be extremely aggravating and expensive when your tractor keeps eating up belts. While you are waiting for your expert answer, I did some research on the unit. At this time, I was unable to locate information that would be helpful in regards to your question. Some of these questions that are asked will need specific research and will be answered by an expert with-in two business days but usually sooner.

Check the sway back that goes from the center of the mower deck, on the back side, to the left side of the tractor frame. If that sway bar is missing, has a broken bracket (common), or bent then it can allow the deck to move around from side to side which will cause the belt to contact the bracket. If the sway bar and corresponding brackets look fine then perhaps the bracket where the belt is rubbing may be pulled up some.

If nothing else, you can use a grinder to shave off some of the bracket to allow clearance for the belt. I've seen a few of these over the years where the belt would rub but it's never been to a point where it was causing the belt to wear out prematurely or break.
