Hi Samantha A, I ordered the motion drive and installed as per manual. The problem is that did not cure the problem of stopping and going while in gear. What would be the next item in question? I may be off base here but I'm thinking clutch. Looking forward to your response. Thanks for your assistance, Ron

Q:

What is causing my tractor to make popping sounds?

A:

If it's coming from the engine I would think it's just as simple as the valves needing to be adjusted. If it's coming from the transmission that's a pretty bad sign and you'll need to have a technician come and check the machine over.

If it is engine noise, try adjusting the valves to .004 on the intake and exhaust. There is a mild possibility that it's a blown head gasket, but you should notice other symptoms like oil consumption and smoking. Plus it would pop all the time.

You did'nt specify whether or not you were mowing. If you were, I think your problem may be the drive belt for your mower deck. Check it out to see if you have a chunk missing. When the missing piece goes by a pulley, it will make one heck of a popping sound, sometimes along with an icreease in vibration. Bob
