Q:

Oil leak on Craftsman riding mower 917-275282

A:

Thanks for the inquiry and for being a valued member.

I am sorry to hear of the oil leak. I know how frustrating that is.

This will likely be the bottom PTO End oil seal. This is an indepth replacement as the oil pan will need to be removed. The engine will usually need to be pulled for this type of repair.

I have linked the page where you can download the engine service manual below. Click on the link for the CV740 engine. The pan assembly is covered on page 65. The oil seal is part number 24-199-07-S.

Q:

pto 917275282 Craftsman Garden tractor

A:

Thank You for choosing Sears PartsDirect.com and being a valued member. It is unfortunate to hear that you are having issues with your lawn tractor and I do understand your frustration. Glad to help out. I'm looking at your model number 917275282 and first check the mower deck belt. If it has come off the instructions for reinstalling it can be found in the manual. If the belt is fine, you will need a voltmeter to check the voltage to the electric clutch. Have some on sit on the tractor and turn the key to the on position but do not start the engine. Then pull out on the PTO switch. When the switch is on you should have 12 volts to the electric clutch. If you have the voltage to the clutch, I suspect the clutch is defective. If you do not have the 12 volts to the clutch, I recommend checking the voltage out of the PTO switch. The red wire is the power out of the PTO switch. I also recommend lowering the deck and looking above the mower deck to see if the cable, spring or linkage has disengaged or broken from the idler pulley mechanism which tightens the blade belt when the lever is engaged. While watching above the deck, have someone move the blade engagement lever back and forth. You should be able to see what has broken or what may have come loose. If you have further questions please resubmit your question for further information. I hope this information helps you.
