Hello Dennis,

I am sorry to hear that your tractor will not stay running and I would like to assist you. The image on page 38 only shows the harness and it's approximate connections. The unused wires in the drawing are likely to be the fuel solenoid, start solenoid and alternator connections. On page 39, the wiring diagram is what counts. There is only one relay in the system and that is for the water temp indicator circuit. The thing that needs to be done is to disconnect the positive cable from the battery and then disconnect the key switch from it's harness connector. Test between B and A1 for continuity with the switch in the on position. It should show around one ohm. If it does not, turn the switch to start and test again. It will show a connection there, according to your description. This simply sounds like the failure of the key switch. Sears Parts Direct is a direct link to the replacement switch.

Please let me know if you would like any further assistance.

I have provided you with the instructions for cleaning the cooling fins of the radiator below. When the cover is off inspect the blower on the top of the flywheel to make sure it is not loose and none of the fins are broken. Once you have done the above refill the radiator and test the engine. If the engine still gets to hot I recommend replacing the thermostat. The thermostat is located in the intake of the engine. In the second image below will show you where the thermostat is located. If the engine still over heats the water pump and/or the water pump belt needs to be changed. I have checked the service manual and changing the water pump is very labor intensive. I recommend that a service technician replace the water pump.

Running the engine hot could cause other costly repairs if you are not confident of any of the above please call a service technician out and possibly avoid engine failure.
