I will need the model number from under the seat to see exactly which steering system your tractor has. I think it would be going out on a limb to say there is a design flaw simply because all of the steering systems have been in use for several years with little to no problems other than normal wear.

Reply back to me here with the model number and I'll see what all I can find out for you.

Thank you for using Manage My Life!

In the drawing I attached you will see highlighted areas. those are the areas that will cause problems steering as they are the places where stuff will wear out. If you can sit on the tractor and pull up on the steering wheel and it steering just fine then there is a spring clip that has busted down on the steering shaft. If that doesn't change anything it may very well be that the bushings have worn out and so has the steering shaft and sector gear. It's really hard to say what all needs to be replaced until you get into it. Key 29 (brass bearing) and key 27 (both of them) are the most likely problems.

I will start to dismantle this afternoon. The brass bearings answers the questions in my mind. When I reached underneath and tried to shake the shaft side to side and it didn't move and when I saw the teeth from the gears worn a bit but with a good gap between. Thats the first that came to mind (blame the engineer). Thats my flaw. Sorry. Thank you again I really appreciate your assistance. Dave
