Q:

refitting the clutch on 2006 Craftsman ride on

A:

Thanks for the inquiry and for being a valued member.

I am sorry to hear of the issue you're having with the model number and the clutch assembly. I know how frustrating that is.

Unfortunately, I was unable to locate any information for this particular model of Craftsman tractor. I can pull up tractors from the 917.2743, but the ending 30 is where the issue is coming from. Do you think it could end in 50 or 80? I see the tractor ending in 80 was also manufactured in 2006. I have linked the tractor's drive schematic below on Sears Parts so you can see the exploded view for the clutch.

I hope this helps and thanks for using SearsPartsDirect.com. We appreciate your business.

I understand how frustrating this can be. While you are waiting on an expert to answer your question, I took some time searching the model number you have provided and found an owners manuals in the ManageMyLife.com website. Hope this helps!

Hi Dezeray, Thanks for that info. I am just not sure that as the model number you have found is not different to my machine, will I be ok ordering parts based on your number or is it essential to have the correct model number?. The diagrams you provided do look to be the same but one thousand of an inch can cause big problems. Thanks again for your information and I hope you can confirm that I can safely use your diagram. Hi again Dezeray, said "is not different to my machine" should say "is different to my machine". My apologies for any confusion. Regards, Tom

I was chatting with Ted on Wednesday morning and he sent e a diagram of the cutting deck asking me to confirm that it is the right diagram. It does look to be the correct diagram but as the parts are numbered 1 to 185 and there is no cross reference chart I can only say that the object of my desire is number 69 (not the Michael Douglas number) I would very much like to chat again with Ted.

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

I was not able to locate any information by the model number you entered. I would have to suspect the model number is not correct. Do you think the model could be a 917.274350? Maybe the last number 3 is a 5 instead of a 3.

Below is all the models that begin with 917.2743 which all use the same part number for the spindle shaft.

  • 917274350
  • 917274351
  • 917274352
  • 917274380
  • 917274381
  • 917274390
  • 917274391

Since the bolt has broken off you will not likely be able to drill a hole in the bolt and use an easy-out to remove the broken bolt. You will likely have to remove and replace the spindle shaft assembly.

I hope this is helpful. If I may be of further assistance as more details become available, please reply to this post.

Hi Joey, I am enclosing a picture of the label on the machine. The diagram you sent looks the same as my deck but the spindle end in your spindle diagram has 5 teeth where mine has six. That is why I need the actual diagram for the model which I have. Also, I will need the manual so I can get the part number for the spindle. Failing that, the only other thing is to compare my spindle dimensions with available parts if possible. Did sears manufacture tractors for a British distributor as there is a distributor who serves Ireland (my country). I have emailed them but have not heard back from them yet. If there is a distributor for the Craftsman brand in Ireland please let me know as I would approach them first so that my machine can be up and running shortly. Regards, Tom

Tom: I'm sorry, we do not have any listings or any information on this model. You may just have to order the spindle and the matching blades using one of the models I provided in my last response.

Joey, At the start of this problem I chatted with a guy called Ted and when he heard what my problem was he sent me a link to a diagram which definitely seemed to be the correct one for my machine. Unfortunately I had some sort of glitch and when I returned from looking at the diagram he sent to me, I was then unable to get in touch with Ted again. If by any chance you know Ted maybe he could help out again by providing that diagram again. I did manage to remove the broken bolt and as I want to ensure that I put it all back together properly and safely I really do need the diagram. Thanks again, Tom

Tom: I do not know Ted nor would I know how to get in touch with him. The model numbers I provided in my first response can most likely be used to look up parts and the Owner's manual. You can view the Owner's Manual at Manage My Life. Enter one of the model numbers I provided. You can also look up parts at Searspartsdirect.com
