Q:

pump on my tractor 917273631 Craftsman Tractor

A:

Thank You for choosing Sears PartsDirect.com. I regret to hear that you are having issues with your mower and do understand your frustration. Glad to help out. Im looking at your model number 917273631 and make sure the oil level is correct. If it is, I would suspect the crankcase breather as being the issue.

The hose from the dipstick to the fuel pump is to provide vacuum to drive the fuel pump. In most cases, there are no issues with this set up. Sometimes something goes awry and we have a problem such as what you have.

Most of the time it's the crankcase breather that's stuck and the oil/air will be pushed to somewhere. And like electricity, the path of least resistance is usually where that somewhere is. Visually inpect the oil pump for any damage. I have included a link to our PartsDirect page where you can purchase the part you need to complete your repair. Just click the blue link above to be taken to the page. If you have further questions please resubmit your question for further information.
