Question and Answers

diagrams needed

Thank you for contacting with your question about your Craftsman Tractor Model 917-273323. I will be happy to help you with diagrams and instructions on replacing the belts.
The owner's manual for your exact model is not online. However, the manual for an earlier version of your tractor is available. Since belts are the same on both tractors, the installation information will be identical. The manual also has diagrams of how the belts route around the pulleys. I have included the link below for you to view this manual.
Instructions on replacing the deck belts begins on page 24. Replacing the motion drive belt instructions begin on page 26.
We recommend using the manufacturer's belts. They are made with Kevlar and are much stronger than a generic belt. Belts made without Kevlar will often snap the first time you use them. Also, even if a belt is the same length as the original, if the belt doesn't fit correctly in the pulley grooves you may end up damaging the pulleys which will be a much more expensive repair than using the original belts. I have included the links to order the belts for you.
I hope this answers your question. If you need further assistance, please resubmit your question with additional details. Thank you for choosing Sears, we appreciate your business.

not charging battery 917273322 Craftsman Tractor

Thanks for the inquiry and for using
I am sorry to hear that the battery is not charging, I know how frustrating it is to have to jump the tractor to get it running.
Based upon your tractor model of 917.273322, I see it uses a Kohler engine with a model of CV25S-69526. You can enter that engine model into to view the engine breakdown for parts.

This could be the stator (alternator) or the regulator causing the problem. To check: Locate the regulator on the side of the engine. It will have 2 wires coming in and usually 1 coming out. The 2 coming in will typically be yellow or black and the 1 coming out will usually be red.
The 2 matching color wires send AC voltage in to the regulator from the alternator. When the engine is running at full throttle, there should be about 28-35 VAC on the 2 matching wires. If that voltage is not there then the alternator (stator) has failed. If there is AC voltage in, check for DC voltage between the red wire and ground (negative terminal or chassis) and you should find about 13-14VDC. If you have AC in but no DC out then the regulator has failed.
If you need either of these parts, I have included blue links below that you may click on to be directed to the SearsParts site to view and purchase whichever part is required.
