Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

The belt can come off if the mandrel(s) are bent or binding or seizing. Check the idler pulley for any excessive play. It could have a lack of tension on the belt, or a worn belt. Check all the belt guides to make they are next to each of the pulleys and not bent allowing the belt to jump out of the pulley(s). Check the pitch of the deck per Owner's manual. Check to see how true the clutch and shaft is spinning too.

Thank you for your question.

I am sorry you are having this problem with the tractor. Usually when this happens, it is because the brake on the clutch is worn. You can try to adjust the clutch first. I have provided you with the instructions below. If the blades do not stop after making the adjustment, you will need to replace the clutch. The part number for the clutch is 174509 and can be ordered from our parts website: Sears Parts Direct .

If you have any other questions or run into problems, please reply below and I will get back to you.

If the brake is worn, the clutch has to be replaced. I have never taken these clutches apart to know if they are repairable because of liability and part availability. I am sorry I do not have a less expensive alternative.

Q:

What is causing the engine on my tractor to only fire on one side?

A:

You have 2 components that can cause this problem. Each cylinder has an ignition module (coil) and both coils are tied into a Spark Advance Module (SAM). One or both of those could be causing your problem. Also, it's worth noting the wiring connecting these devices to each other could also be the issue. There is a device used to check the SAM, but it's not something that readily available to the general public (meaning you can run down the road and get one). If you have an Ohm meter you can "ohm out" the coil to check it. Given what's happening, I would suspect the coil as being the problem simply because the other side is working. Most times when the SAM goes out, it goes completely out and neither side is going to have fire on it.
