Thank You for choosing Sears PartsDirect.com. It is unfortunate to hear that you are having issues with your mower and I do understand your frustration. Glad to help out. I'm looking at your model number 917273110 and if the steering is binding when you turn left, I recommend lifting the front of the tractor so the wheels are off the ground. Then turn the wheels left and right. If it still skips when you turn left, I suspect something is binding. You will need to find where. I would take the drag link off and move each spindle to be sure they are free. Then turn the steering wheel to see if it is binding. It is very possible that the bushing and bearings may need to be replaced if they have not been replaced since you have own the mower. I hope this information helps with your troubleshooting. If you have further questions please resubmit your question for further information.

Thank you for choosing SearsPartsDirect.com. I will be more than happy to assist you. I can understand the frustration with not being able to turn correctly.

Let’s see what we can do for you. Normally when changing out the sector gear, that you change out another gears. This is so they can wear evenly and not have premature wear on the new parts you put on it.

The pinion gear at the bottom of that steering shaft should be replaced as well to avoid any skipping of teeth on the sector gear. When changing that pinion gear, you would have to change the steering shaft, and it would have the new pinion gear already on it. The part number for that steering shaft is 145103.

Hope this information has helped you. If you are not comfortable doing this repair you can click here to schedule a technician or call toll free 1-800-469-4663.

If you have any further questions or concerns, you will have to post a new question. Again, thank you for choosing SearsPartsDirect.com.
