Q:

trying to level deck 917272442 Craftsman Lawn tractor

A:

Thanks for using SearsPartsDirect.com, and for being a valued member.

This model adjusts from 1 to 4 inches with the number 1 setting basically at ground level and 6 being at about 4 inches. You want to cut leaving an average of 2 1/2 to 3 inches depending on the season. The numbers for the deck height are just for reference not specific inches. You can set the deck to the highest position and measure from the blade tip to ground. Then use a permanent maker to write inches next to the number. If your grass is over 6 inches, it will need to be set higher, and then mowed twice.

I hope this helps, and thanks for using SearsPartsDirect.com. We appreciate your business.

Q:

installing tractor drive belt 917-272442

A:

Thank you for contacting SearsPartsDirect.com with your question about installing the drive belt on your Craftsman Tractor model 917.272442. I will be happy to help you with this. I have included the blue link below for you to view the manual online, in case you don't have a copy.

The step-by-step instructions will be on page 25. Be sure to put safety first and park the tractor on a level surface and engage the parking brake. You will need to remove the mower deck to install the drive belt. Those directions will be on page 23.

To install the new drive belt, you will want to start at the front of the tractor and put the belt around the engine pulley. Pull the belt towards the rear of the tractor. The belt needs to go over the cooling fan blades and around the transmission input pulley. It then goes around the clutching idler pulley and then the stationary idler pulley. There is a diagram in the manual that shows you the locations of the pulleys on the tractor

I hope this answers your question. If you need further assistance, please resubmit your question with additional details. Thank you for choosing Sears, we appreciate your business.
