Q:

Motor dies when clutch is released 917.272240 917.27224

A:

Thanks for the inquiry and for using SearsPartsDirect.com.
This definitely sounds like a defective safety switch issue. Especially since you mentioned that you can get off the seat and it continues to run. When the saftey circuit is an issue, it will cause the plugs to kill spark to the engine and kill it when the clutch is depressed or the blades are engaged. When you get off the seat, it should also kill the engine. I would recommend to pull the connector to the switch and clean the contacts thoroughly. Once cleaned make sure the connector is firmly pushed together. That may solve the issue. If it doesn't, I would recommend a replacement seat switch.
Hope this helps and let us know if we can be of any further assistance. Thanks for using SearsPartsDirect.com.

Q:

917.272240 Fluid leak

A:

The fluid leak is concerning. I did some research on your model number but was not able to find out what the fluid would be. Your expert will be able to help answer your question. It may take two business days. I do hope that everything works out on the mower.

Thanks for the inquiry about your mower model 917.272240, I will be glad to assist you. Finding the source of the mysterious fluid leak will require a visual inspection, look at the undercarriage and find any oily component. I cannot think of any place in the front section that fluid would come from as there are no fluid holding components near the front of the tractor. I would first recommend verifying that the substance actually came from the tractor. Another possibility may be if you serviced the unit before storing at end of last season, could this just be a drip from your service or cleaning or something that was stuck on the blade.  Be sure to check all the fluid levels as possible; it would take a large amount of leaking to affect any operation.   If you get to the point where you need to have a service technician diagnose and repair this failure, you can schedule service through this link: Sears Home Services.Ron H.

Hi Ron, It was a fairly large puddle. Is there any way to check the fluid level of the drive system. I heard they are sealed on some models and not on others.

Hello again Ron, ( or anyone else that can answer this question) I checked the oil in the rear drive train and it is full. A little dirty but full. Is there any other fluid in this model other than the rear drive and engine oil (drive for the mower deck maybe)? If not I'm chasing a leaky ghost. Jimmy ps... thanks for the info on checking the rear drive.

Q:

how to reinstall disengage lever at rear of tractor model # 91727240 video or diagram please

A:

Reinstalling parts on a tractor almost require diagrams or good instructions. I tried to locate some information with the model number above but no information was found. It may help the expert if you can recheck and add the complete model number if different. Just click reply and add the additional information. If you would like some help with this repair, I added the Sears Home Services link below. I hope this turns out to be an easy repair.

I'm afraid the model number you provided does not show to be a good model number. Check under the seat of the tractor to verify the number for me, please. You can reply back to me on this thread with the correct number and I'll see what I can find out for you. I will tell you that it's very unlikely I will be able to find a video showing this procedure as it's not something that has to be done very often. But we'll see what I can come up with once I know which type you have.

Thank you for using Manage My Life!

Thanks!

This disengage lever appears to be essentially 2 parts. The lever and a spring. The spring is shown as being part of the lever, but that may not be the case as you could get just a lever by itself if you order a replacement.

Notice in the photo I've attached below, the little circled area that states "bypass valve" and where the arrow points to its location. The lever will come in from the back and the spring end will attach to that little "arm" on the bypass valve. This should be on the right side of the transmission if the one you have is just like the one in the photo. If you do not see that little arm on the right side, it will be on the left.
