Question and Answers

Q:

Will my old snow thrower attachment fit a new tractor?

A:

Thank you for your question. I understand you concern about the snow thrower. The snow thrower that is shown for the tractor listed is # 24837, although it may be an updated version of the model you have. The only way to determine what snow thrower can be used will be to, have the model number of the tractor. If you would like more assistance, reply to this thread with the full model number of the new tractor and I will be glad to assist you further.

Can the list of tractor models that my snow thrower will fit be provided? I want to search the classified ads to see if I can find a tractor that will fit it without having to come back here on a one-by-one basis to determine if the tractor is suitable.

David, unfortunately the snow thrower model will not show which tractors it will work with. The only way to determine which snow thrower is required will be with the model number of the tractor. Now, in all probability, this older snow thrower will not be compatible with the recent tractors. I hope this will help you.

Scott your comment about compatibility is different than what I've read elsewhere (may have been on this site) that the frames on the 2006 tractors had a change to the size of the frame, and this meant that an older snow thrower wouldn't fit a new tractor. I found that link that mentions the 2006 frame change and linked it below.

David, I'm sorry for the confusion. There has been a design change in the frames. I did mean that it won't be compatible (won't fit) to the newer tractors.

Craftsman 917.272021 Engine stalls when clutch is released 917272021 Craftsman Lawn tractor

A:

Thanks for the inquiry and for being a valued member.

I am sorry to hear of the stalling engine when the clutch is released. I know how frustrating that is.

This issue could happen if any of the safety switch connections are dirty, not secure, or if the switch itself is defective. There is the seat switch, clutch/brake switch, and the blade engagement switch. You will want to run a continuity check on the switches to check them. I have posted a video below that you can refer to on the testing.

Q:

transaxel fluid 917272021 Craftsman Lawn tractor

A:

Thanks for the inquiry and for being a valued member.

That model has a Hydro-Gear 310-0650 transaxle which takes 20W50 motor oil. Using other oil could cause drive problems or transaxle damage so be sure to use the correct oil only.

The transaxle will hold approximately 2.5 quarts or 80 ounces of oil but the level should be verified by measuring down from the top of the housing where the fill plug goes in. The oil level should be 1.25” 1.5”? down from the top of the housing.

If you are changing the oil altogether, the oil is drained by removing the breather assembly or vent cap. To do that, the transaxle will need to be removed and be inverted to have it completely drain.

I hope this helps and thanks for using SearsPartsDirect.com. We appreciate your business.
