Q:

Will Grass Catcher 917.248980 fit Lawn Tractor 917.271734? 917248980 Craftsman Grass catcher

A:

Thanks for the inquiry and for using SearsPartsDirect.com.
Based upon tractor model 917.271734, I see only one applicable 3 bin bagger setup. The model number is 917.248920, and the part number is 24892. This is a soft container bagger.
There are also two 2 bin baggers available. The soft setup is part number 24891, and the hard setup is 24897.
Baggers are very model specific for mounting, and we do not recommend to use any bagger on the tractor other than what's made for it, as we could not guarantee the usability or installation.
Hope this helps and thanks for using SearsPartsDirect.com. We appreciate your business.

I can fully understand your need for instruction on this blade changing issue.  An impact wrench is your best tool for this kind of a job.   I have located a link that will discuss your situation in more detail.
Click here to view the link.  Though this link discusses a different model number,
the mechanics are likely going to be very similar. Keep in mind that an expert will be
responding within the next two business days if not sooner and will likely offer you more information and
instruction. I hope this information will be helpful and have a nice day.

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

The hex head bolt securing the blades to the mandrel has right hand threads.  To loosen and remove the hex head bolt, turn the bolt counter clockwise as viewing the bolt as if the deck was turned upside down. Use a 4X4 block of wood to place between the tip of the blade and the deck to keep the blade and mandrel from turning while loosening the bolt.

I added a video showing the proper procedure of removing the hex nut in order to remove and replace the blades.

I hope this is helpful. If I may be of further assistance as more details become available, please reply to this post.

The ball joints are made onto the ends of the drag link, they are not replaceable alone because of this. The threaded end of the ball joint is held onto the steering gear (on one end) and the spindle (on the other end) with a nut and lockwasher.

Thank you for using Manage My Life!
