I have not heard of a pto switch melting very often. I recommend checking the wire connectors at the switch. A loose connection at the switch will cause heat and eventually melt the plastic of the switch. If the electric clutch is out of specification, it will draw more amperage then normal. I have provided you with the instructions for checking the clutch. Once you have checked the clutch replace the switch and check the amp draw. The amp draw should be under 4 amps. If you find the amp draw is over 4 amps the clutch needs replaced. I hope this is helpful.

If you need further assistance, please submit more details.

Thank you for your question.

I am sorry you are having a problem with the tractor. If the input pulley moves up and down, you will need to determine where the play is coming from. To do this you will need to wiggle the pulley up and down while watching the shaft. If the pulley is moving on the shaft, you can get by with replacing the pulley. If the shaft moves side to side, the problem is internal. To repair this you will need to replace the shaft and bearings or the complete transaxle. We replace the complete transaxle because of the labor cost to do the internal repair. If you would like to repair the old transaxle, I recommend having it done by a local repair center. The reason is the transaxles have quite a bit of parts that need to be put back in the correct order. If one part is missed placed, the transaxle may not work.

Please let me know if you need further assistance on the tractor.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .
