Q:

craftsman riding lawn mower model # 917270760. Drive belt jumps off motor pulley craftsman riding lawn mower model # 917270760.

A:

Thank you for choosing Sears Parts Direct. I will be more than happy to help with your lawn mower. Upon researching model 917270760; when you push in the clutch the belt needs to balloon away from the engine pulley far enough that the belt doesn't touch the pulley.

You have several belt guides that might have gotten bent or moved out of place when you replaced the belt.

Position the belt guides so there is 1/2 inch clearance between the guide and the back of the belt.

Thank you for choosing Sears Parts Direct. I will be more than happy to help with your air compressor.

Q:

Lawn Tractor won't hold a charge 917.270760

A:

Thanks for the inquiry and for being a valued member.

Charge the new battery so it is fully charged. Measure the voltage across the positive and negative battery terminals. A good, fully charged battery should read 12.6 volts dc across the terminals.

Start the engine and set at full speed. Measure the voltage with the engine running at full speed. You should read 13-14 volts dc. If you still read 12.6 volts dc, something is wrong in the charging circuit of the engine. If you do read 13-14 volts with the engine running, the battery is bad.

If there is not a charge going to the battery, you can test to see if the stator (696458) or regulator (797375) is bad. The two outside terminals on the regulator is the AC voltage input from the stator and the center terminal is the DC voltage output. You can disconnect the stator wires at the regulator and measure the AC voltage across the two stator wires. It should produce 28 volts AC at 3600 RPM. If the voltage is correct the stator is OK. Reconnect the two stator wires to the regulator. The red wire coming off the regulator should produce an output of 13.8-14 volts DC or 15 DC amps at 3600 RPM. If the amperage is correct, the battery is bad. If the output is not 15 amps or 13.8 to 14 volts DC, replace the regulator.

I hope this helps and thanks for using SearsPartsDirect.com. We appreciate your business.
