Q:

Replacing brake pads on tractor 917270512 917270512 Craftsman 14.5 hp electric start 6 speed 42

A:

Thanks for the inquiry and for being a valued member.

To replace the pucks you have to remove the two bolts securing the actuator. Then slide the brake disc off and replace back puck. Next slide the disc back on and install the new puck into the actuator. Place the actuator back on to the transaxle and make any adjustments needed.

There are some great YouTube videos that will show the brake puck replacements. They are all pretty similar in design. Just make sure you keep account of how the parts are taken off and assemble them in the same order. If you do that, you won’t have any issues. The part number for the brake pucks are 799021, and are offered in a pack of 2.

I hope this helps and thanks for using SearsPartsDirect.com. We appreciate your business.

Q:

How to install steering gears. 917270512

A:

Thanks for the inquiry and for using SearsPartsDirect.com.
On the shaft and gear, there will be splines. You should notice on the shaft that in one place, one of the spline is twice as wide as the rest of them. There will be a point on the sector gear that will match up with that. There is no other way to it. It's either right or the gear will not go onto the shaft.
Hope this helps and thanks for using SearsPartsDirect.com. We appreciate your business.
