I know that it can be very frustrating to have issues with your lawn tractor. Make sure the brake is all the way in, you are sitting in the seat, and the pto switch is off when you start the tractor. There are safety switches that will prevent the starter from engaging if these conditions are not met.

It is normal for the engine to die when you engage the pto if you are not sitting in the seat. The engine dying when you turn the lights should not happen. See if it does when you are in the seat. If it does you might have some wires shorted.

If the engine doesn't turn over when the conditions above are met, you might have a bad seat switch, pto switch, or brake/clutch switch. I hope this helps. If you need further assistance, please reply to this thread. Thank you for using Manage My Life.

Thank you for your question.

I am sorry you are having a problem with the tractor. If the input shaft is loose, you will need to at least install a new input kit. The part number for the kit is 138234 and can be ordered from our parts website: Sears Parts Direct . If it has gone long enough you might need the case. You will not now this until you take the transaxle apart. If the shaft cut into the case, you will need part number 160939.

First jack up and secure the tractor with jack stands. Then remove the wheels all of the bolts securing the transaxle to the tractor. The transaxle should drop right out. Then clean the dirt off the transaxle so it does not contaminate the inside. Put the transaxle on a bench and remove the pulley and all of the bolts securing the two halves. Before removing the top section of the transaxle have a camera ready to tale pictures of the disassembly. The reason is you can refer to them later. Then use a screwdriver to separate the two halves. Once you have the top off remove the snap ring holding the shaft in the cover. The shaft should just drop out. The use a punch and hammer to drive out the old bearings. I recommend supporting the case right around the bearing opening so the case does not break. Once it they are out clean the case and inspect it. If it looks ok, go ahead and install the new shaft kit. Before reassembling the transaxle add about the same amount of lube you cleaned from the case when you cleaned it. Then reassemble in the reverse order and use the pictures you took earlier.

I am sorry I do not have any service manuals for this transaxle to provide pictures. If you need further assistance, please fell free to reply below with more details.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

Thank you for your question.

To remove the flywheel you need to purchase a flywheel puller. The part number for the puller is 19203 and can be ordered from our parts website Sears Parts Direct . Once you have the puller remove the flywheel nut. Then thread the bolts of the puller into the flywheel. Once they are seated, tighten the nuts on the puller. After you have, the nuts tight tap on the puller. The blow from the hammer should pop the flywheel loose.

Please let me know if you need further assistance on the repair.
