Thank you for choosing SearsPartsDirect.com. I will be more then happy to assist you. Looking at the information im showing that you Got PTO switch part number 174651? Cause that's the number showing for the correct part number. The next thing would be to ask when was the last time you did a tune up on the tractor? It may be in need of full tune up, cause running just fine till you put some load on it and it dies just screams tune up. Now if you have done a tune up already then maybe the last thing it could be out be a bad clutch, and that's why your switch went out in the first place. Hope this information has help you. If you are not comfortable doing this repair you can Click Here to schedule a technician or call toll free 1-800-469-4663. Any further questions or concerns. You will have to post a new question because at this time I can not reply to any comments. Again, Thank you for choosing SearsPartsDirect.com.

My mower (same model) also boggs down when the PTO switch is engaged. I tried it with and without the belt. I'm about to order the new PTO switch, and was thinking it may be wise to get a clutch while I'm at it. What's the correct part number for the clutch? Do I have to get the entire clutch assembly?

Q:

No spark at plug 917257720 Craftsman Lawn tractor

A:

Thank you for your inquiry on your Craftsman Tractor, Model: 917.257720. From reviewing the details on your model, Remove the engine shroud and remove the "kill" wire from the ignition coil and then check for spark. If you still do not have spark then the coil has failed. If you do have spark with the kill wire removed then trace the wire back up into the tractor harness and there will most likely be a short (to ground) along the line somewhere.

Safety Warning: Before beginning the repair, disconnect the direct power supply to the tractor to prevent the risk of injury or any electrical shock.

If you don’t feel comfortable or confident in this repair, then you can have it repaired at home by a sears technician. I have the included a link to the website: Sears Home Services or call 1-800-469-4663.

I hope this answered your question. Thank you for contacting SearsPartsDirect.com, and have yourself a wonderful day.
