Question and Answers

Q:

drive pully 917257652 Craftsman Improved rocker arm and pivot-lawn tractors

A:

Thanks for the inquiry and for being a valued member.

I am not entirely sure which pulley you are referring to as there are several “drive” pulleys, but the most commonly referred to drive pulley is the engine pulley.

If you don't have an impact wrench it can be a little bit difficult to remove and install, but not impossible by any means.

You may need to block the flywheel with a screwdriver or strap and have someone hold it while you remove the pulley screw. Sometimes you can squeeze the belt in the pulley and it will hold it enough for you to get the screw out. Once you get the screw out, the pulley will slide right off the shaft (make sure to take both belts off of pulley. You can just push the top belt off the top of the little pulley; there is no need to take that belt off. If the pulley doesn't slide off the shaft, spray some WD-40 or penetrating oil.

I hope this helps and thanks for using SearsPartsDirect.com. We appreciate your business.

Q:

Stops running 917257652 Craftsman Improved rocker arm and pivot-lawn tractors

A:

Thank You for choosing Sears PartsDirect.com and being a valued member. It is unfortunate to hear that you are having issues with your lawn tractor and I do understand your frustration. Glad to help out. I'm looking at your model number 917257652 and take a look at the seat switch. Check the plug to make sure it's plugged in securely. The switch itself could be faulty, but often we see the plug loose and it will cause the same issue. The most likely problem will be the seat switch or the seat switch connector. You can test the seat switch with a volt/ohm meter.

The seat switch connector has a shunt built into it. If the connector is not firmly plugged on the seat switch, it grounds out and when the clutch is released or the deck is engaged, the engine will die. Look closely at the connector and you will see a plunger that is pushed in when it is plugged on the seat switch. Here is a link that will help with testing the switch. Just click the blue link above to be taken to the page. I trust this information will help you.

Thank you for choosing Sears PartsDirect.com.
